Get your chia on! Try delicious, nutritious snacks from Health Warrior

One thing you quickly learn about eating gluten-free is that not all gluten-free foods are healthy. Some of them, especially when it comes to snack foods and energy bars, are loaded with sugar and unhealthy fat so that they taste better. While I’m all about tastiness, I like to eat healthy more often than not, so I’ve been searching for a while now to find a snack that’s good for my taste buds and my waistline. And I’ve finally found a few, thanks to Health Warrior.

Health Warrior prides themselves on using real, good-for-you foods in their products. Their products feature chia seeds, which are an incredibly healthy ingredient. Did you know that, ounce per ounce, chia contains more Omega-3 than salmon, more protein than tofu, more fiber than oatmeal, and more calcium than milk? Health Warrior also accomplished what I once believed to be impossible: making chia seeds really yummy. Months ago, I’d tried adding chia seeds to smoothies and other foods, and wasn’t impressed with the taste or the texture. But the opposite happened when I tried Health Warrior’s Chia Protein Bars as well as their Chia Bar Super Snacks—I found the consistency of the bars to be quite appealing, and each product I tried was a tasty and filling snack.

There are currently two types of Health Warrior Chia Bars available, both of which are certified gluten-free. The larger Chia Protein Bar comes in at 190-210 calories, includes 10 grams of plant protein (from chia, oats, and quinoa), has between 5 and 6 grams of fiber, and is low in sugar (11 grams or fewer per bar). They come in four flavors: decadent Dark Chocolate with Sea Salt, hearty Peanut Butter Cacao, tart and tangy Lemon Goldenberry, and (my personal favorite) delicious Honey Almond. These can be a great energy booster before or after workouts, or a filling, portable on-the-go snack.

The smaller bars, the Chia Bar Super Snacks, are perfect “anytime” snacks. At 100-110 calories each, they’re a healthy indulgence that won’t harm your waistline. Like their larger counterparts, these bars are also packed with good-for-you deliciousness: each of these smaller bars contains 3 grams of protein, 12 to 16% of your daily fiber, and has no more than 5 grams of sugar. They come in eight tasty flavors. My personal favorites were Coconut (sweet and tropical), Apple Cinnamon (comforting and subtlely spiced), and Acai Berry (the perfect blend of sweet and tart). The Chia Bar Super Snacks are little enough to fit into your smallest purse, but big enough to keep you feeling satisfied.

These bars are really pleasant to eat. They’re chewy and a little crunchy all at the same time. They’re the type of snack you savor, not scarf down. Each flavor I tried was unique and delicious. And, the best part, they’re healthy! These are not snacks you need to feel guilty about enjoying.
