Celebrate springtime and Easter with sweet gluten-free treats from PEEPS!

Winter in the Philadelphia area is never any fun. It’s cold, gray, and snowy. Each year, I have to really push myself to remember that the weather’s only temporary and that springtime and sunshine are only a few days away. Luckily, in February, the first bright spot of spring shows its cute little face. No, I don’t mean the groundhog Punxsutawney Phil—I mean the iconic yellow PEEPS® Chick, which is what I consider the first official sign of spring!

But this year, I’m extra excited. You see, the PEEPS Chick isn’t marching into springtime alone. Oh, no—this chick has a lot of friends. A lot of sweet, colorful, adorable, and utterly delicious friends, in fact. And I can’t wait to tell you all about them so that you can add them to your Easter baskets, stash them in your desk drawer, or stockpile them for the months after Easter (c’mon, I can’t possibly be the only one who does this!). Keep reading to learn about all the PEEPS flavors available this spring, from traditional favorites to new, mouthwatering flavors. All of the flavors I’m highlighting in this article are gluten-free!

A rainbow of chicks and bunnies

PEEPS marshmallow chicks and bunnies traditionally come in a variety of colors: pink, blue, yellow, orange, green, lavender, and white. Although you may have a favorite color and critter combination (for example, I’m partial to the pink bunnies), all of these PEEPS taste the same. They are sweet and squishy and marshmallowy, and they leave colorful sugar on your fingertips. Go ahead and lick it off; I won’t judge!

Quantities and prices

Traditional PEEPS Marshmallow Chicks come in 5-, 10, and 15-count packages. The 5-count package costs $1.19; a 10-count package is $1.49 to $1.79; and a 15-count package is $1.89 to $2.49.

Traditional PEEPS Marshmallow Bunnies come in 4-, 12, and 16-count packages. The 4-count pack costs $0.99 to $1.19; the 12-count pack costs $1.49 to $1.79; and the 16-count pack is $1.89 to $2.49.

Bold new flavors of marshmallow chicks

If you’re looking for a PEEP that has more flavor than just traditional marshmallow, there are tons of options for you to choose from! Read on to learn where to find these PEEPS—some of them are exclusive to certain stores!

Fruit Punch PEEPS: These chicks taste good, but smell even better! They remind me of a fruit drink I used to love when I was a kid, and I love their bright red color. They’re available in a 10-count pack and are a Kroger exclusive.

Cotton Candy PEEPS: If you thought PEEPS couldn’t get any sweeter, you’re wrong! These delicious chicks make you think of the carnivals that happen in the spring and summer. The taste is spot-on, so if you’re a cotton candy fan, you won’t want to miss these! Available in 5-count packs, only at Walgreens.

Party Cake PEEPS: These chicks really know how to party! They have a creamy, vanilla taste and are speckled with what looks like multicolored edible confetti. They taste like cupcakes—yum! They come in 10-count packs.

Blue Raspberry PEEPS: If you loved blue raspberry slushies, this is the perfect chick for you! The flavor is great, and they have the perfect amount of tartness to them. They’re bright turquoise on the outside and light blue on the inside—such a cute and colorful addition to your Easter basket! Available in 10-count packs.

Sour Watermelon PEEPS: These chicks really remind you of watermelon, from their bright green outsides to their pink insides! These have a moderately sour/tart taste that doesn’t hit you right away—it’s more like a sour afterbite. Available in 10-count packs.

Mystery flavors

If you like your marshmallow chicks with a dash of mystery, these chicks are for you! I had so much fun sampling these and trying to guess the flavors. There are three varieties of Mystery Flavor chicks—they all come in 10-count boxes and are only available at Walmart.

Here are my theories:

Mystery Flavor #1: White chocolate (sweet and delicious)

Mystery Flavor #2: Popcorn (unique and a little earthy)

Mystery Flavor #3: Wild cherry (sweet, fruity, and sour—the most tart of all of the PEEPS flavors I sampled for this article!)

Fruity flavors with fudge

PEEPS added an extra layer of sweet to some of their marshmallow chicks this year—they dipped them in fudge! Some of the fudge is crème-flavored fudge (attention PEEPS: Can you please deliver a vat of that fudge straight to my doorstep? It is ridiculously yummy and I think I might be addicted). And some of the fudge is fruit-flavored! Read on to learn about all the fruity flavor combos and where you can find them (some of them are exclusive to certain stores!).

Blueberry Delight Chicks dipped in Crème Fudge: This may be my favorite out of all the PEEPS I sampled! The blueberry flavor of the chicks is wonderful, and it pairs so well with the crème-flavored fudge! I could seriously eat these all day. Available in 3-count packs, only at Target.

Vanilla Delight Chicks dipped in Crème Fudge: If you love your cupcakes and your marshmallows, these chicks are right up your alley! They taste like frosted cupcakes. Totally yummy. Available in 3-count packs, only at Target.

Raspberry Delight Chicks dipped in Crème Fudge: The raspberry flavor was fantastic—a great combination of sweet and tart. The fudge complemented it nicely. Available in 3-count packs, only at Target.

Lemon Delight Chicks dipped in Lemon Fudge: These were deliciously refreshing. The taste reminded me of a not too sweet, not too sour lemonade. The lemon-flavored fudge was sweet and delicious, too. Available in 3-count packs, only at Target.

Strawberry Delight Chicks dipped in Crème Fudge: These chicks taste like strawberry shortcake! They’re the perfect snack—and an even better dessert. Available in 3-count packs at Target and CVS.

Orange Delight Chicks dipped in Orange Fudge: These tasted like creamsicles! So light and sweet. The orange fudge was tangy and tasty. Available in 3-count packs.

Lime Delight Chicks dipped in Lime Fudge: If you like key lime pie, you’ll love these chicks! They’re a sweet lime, not a sour lime. This is like the two best parts of a key lime pie—the lime and the meringue (who needs the crust, anyway?). Available in 3-count packs.

For chocolate lovers

Chocolate Mousse Flavored Marshmallow Bunnies: Out of all PEEPS’ chocolate offerings, I liked these the best. These soft, squooshy bunnies really do taste like chocolate mousse! They’re decadently delicious. They come in 8-count packs.

Chocolate Dipped Mousse Flavored Marshmallow Chicks: Chocolate on top of chocolate! These chicks come in 3-count packs and are available dipped in milk chocolate or dark chocolate. Yum!

Chocolate Dipped Marshmallow Chicks: The traditional yellow PEEPS Chick is dipped in milk or dark chocolate. The perfect springtime treat!

Chocolate Covered Marshmallow Chicks: If you want even more chocolate with your marshmallow, this treat is for you! These individually-wrapped marshmallow chicks are covered in either milk or dark chocolate. These are really yummy, and because they’re individually packaged, they’re easy to take on the go. (Because you always need PEEPS in your purse. Seriously!)

Other fun shapes and flavors

Can’t eat sugar? Don’t worry—you can still get your marshmallow chick fix! PEEPS offers Sugar Free Marshmallow Chicks in 3-count packs. They’re $1.29 to $1.69. I’ve spotted them at my local CVS.

PEEPS Orange Crème Marshmallow Bunnies: These cute little bunnies taste like creamsicles! They’re really delicious and are one of my very favorite. Find them at CVS; they come in 12-count packs.

If you like the Orange Crème Marshmallow Bunnies, pay a visit to your local Dollar Tree! They have Orange Crème Marshmallow Chicks, as well as Strawberry Crème Marshmallow Chicks, available exclusively there. They come in 3-count packs for just a dollar each. That’s a lot of sweet deliciousness for just one dollar!

Large Marshmallow Bunnies: If you prefer your bunnies to be larger than the traditional PEEPS marshmallow bunnies, these are for you! Available in 1- and 3-count packs, these super-cute white bunnies are each adorned with a green bowtie and decorative carrot.

Decorated Eggs: These marshmallow Easter eggs come in 9-count packs and are white with pastel designs. They’re the perfect addition to any Easter basket!

Awesome PEEPS gifts and gift sets

I feel like everywhere I go, I’m finding new PEEPS paraphernalia (PEEPaphernalia?) that I can’t live without! For example, at Target I found PEEPS gift baskets that include delicious PEEPS, a small stuffed bunny, a bunny ears headband, a card game, and more. Also at Target, I found PEEPS plush bunnies that are over a foot tall, and I loved them so much I bought them in pink, purple, and yellow.

At BJs, I found PEEPS gift sets with medium-sized plush bunnies and corresponding marshmallow PEEPS; I bought the blue bunny set, but there are also pink and yellow bunny sets available.

At CVS, I found a variety of PEEPS bubbles as well as gift sets featuring small plush bunnies and corresponding marshmallow PEEPS. At Five Below, I found PEEPS Easter baskets, T-shirts, a bunny-shaped chalkboard, and a wide variety of marshmallow PEEPS.

Of course, you can always visit the PEEPS online store for an even wider variety of sweet, delicious, and adorable offerings. There, you can purchase plush chicks and bunnies in a wide range of sizes; apparel for the whole family; fun Easter basket stuffers like nail files, golf balls, socks, and more; and, of course, lots and lots of marshmallow PEEPS! I love the PEEPS store and can always find the right PEEPS-themed gift for just about anyone. I even bought a PEEPS cat toy for my parents’ cats—and they love it so much they fight over it!

If you’re gluten-free for medical reasons…

While all PEEPS mentioned above in this article are gluten-free, there are a few PEEPS that I didn’t mention here because they may not be safe for those who must be gluten-free for medical reasons. The smaller PEEPS chicks I’ve seen—those that are individually wrapped and sold in PEEPS cups at CVS, and those that are on a wooden stick (Rainbow Pops) and sold in the Easter section at Target—are not considered safe because they are processed somewhere where they may have come into contact with wheat (this is clearly labeled on the packaging). These PEEPS are noticeably smaller than the traditionally-sized PEEPS chicks that are sold in boxes. So if you see a treat that includes these smaller PEEPS, check the packaging before you buy it to make sure it is safe for you to enjoy!

Which PEEPS flavors are your favorites? My faves include the traditional pink bunnies, the Blueberry Delight chicks with Crème Fudge, the Orange Crème bunnies, and the Chocolate Mousse bunnies. Let me know which ones you love in the comments below!

Special thanks to PEEPS for providing me with so many amazing PEEPS treats to sample for this article! I truly enjoyed tasting every single one of them. PEEPS is a brand I’ve loved forever, but even more so now that I must eat gluten-free. Due to being gluten-free and for other medical reasons/conditions, I’ve had to give up so many of my favorite treats—but not PEEPS. I’m thrilled that so many PEEPS are safe for me, and safe for gluten-free families, to enjoy!
